200 Social Media Users Warned by Indonesia Virtual Police after Posting Offensive Content
The newly-established Indonesia virtual police unit has issued its warning to 200 social media users who have posted potential criminally offensive content related to ethnicity, religion, and race, police said.
"As many as 329 complaints have been filed, but only 200 of them are verified [allegedly contain hate speech]," said Director of Cyber Crime at the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency Brigadier General Slamet Uliandi in Jakarta on Tuesday, April 13.
The contents could be charged under Article 28 of the Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE) Law.
Out of 329 complaints, 38 of which are still being verified, while 91 others were dropped as the cases could not be verified.
Slamet said the social media platform with the most reported content is Twitter followed by Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Whatsapp.
The virtual police officers will reprimand and explain a potential violation of an article of ITE Law, including its punishment, then will explain what needs to be done next.
Indonesia Has Administered 15.1 Million Doses of Covid-19 Vaccines
Indonesia has administered 15.1 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines as of Sunday, April 11, following the distribution of 24 million doses of vaccines across the country, according to Health Ministry’s website.
Health Ministry spokesperson on Covid-19 affairs Siti Nadia Tarmizi said the figures covered the first and second doses of Covid-19 vaccines given to health workers, public officials, and the elderly with a daily injection capacity of 500,000 doses.
"Indonesia is ranked 8 out of 60 countries that have done the mass vaccination program. This is a great achievement, which is supported by the entire people,” Health Ministry’s official website quoted Nadia on Tuesday, March 13.
However, Nadia said, the vaccination coverage of the elderly is still low, which is only about two million people. The figure is lower than the vaccination coverage of public officers which reached 6.5 million people.
She stressed the importance of accelerating the vaccination coverage among the elderly because this population is at the most risk.
Therefore, she called on the community to help the elderly get vaccinated at the Covid-19 vaccination centers immediately.
"Elderly can get vaccinated anywhere without the need to adjust the ID card or be equipped with a certificate of domicile where the elderly are residing," said Nadia.
Indonesian Movie Theaters Reopen for Public, Ensure Cleanliness
Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, assured that cinemas would strictly apply the hygiene protocol of CHSE (cleanliness, health, safety, and environment) for the public.
"Today we proved it when watching the film 'Kartini'. We want to make sure that the cinema is safe and comfortable following the implementation of the CHSE health protocol [cleanliness, health, safety & environment sustainability],” Sandiaga said in his Instagram account Monday, April 12.
During his visit to the Metropole Cinema in Jakarta, Sandiaga said that the reopening of theaters is one of the efforts to revive the economy and create jobs amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
He called for the public to watch Indonesian movies. He said that the country’s film industry has been hit hard by coronavirus as the cinemas across the country were closed for a year.
