Two Foreigners Get Death Sentences for Violating Indonesia’s Narcotics Law

The Serang District Court in Banten handed down the death sentences to foreigners for possessing 821 kilograms of amphetamine, or locally known as syabu.

The panel of judges presided over by Judge Atep Sopandi, found Bashir Ahmed of Pakistan and Adel of Yemen guilty of violating the Narcotics Law.

“The court sentenced the death penalty to defendant Bashir and defendant Adel,” said Judge Atep while reading out the verdict.

The defendants have been sentenced death penalty because they failed to support the government’s program in the eradication of narcotics in the country and could damage the future of the Indonesian youth after the two kept the syabu in a shop on Jalan Raya Takari Taktakan, Taktakan District, Serang City.

“During the trials, the two defendants testified complicated answers,” said Atep.
The court verdict was in accordance with the demands of the prosecutors. With the verdicts, the two defendants are still considering other legal remedies.

Indonesia's Bali to Observe Zero Shadow Day Feb. 26-27

Since opening its doors to domestic travelers, Tanah Lot and Pandawa Beach have become the top favorite places to visit in Bali in the new normal.PIXABAY/DEZALB Since opening its doors to domestic travelers, Tanah Lot and Pandawa Beach have become the top favorite places to visit in Bali in the new normal.

The Indonesian resort island of Bali will experience an astronomical phenomenon of zero shadow day when the sun will be exactly overhead on February 26-27.
People can stand in the sun at any place and will see their shadows disappear for a few seconds.

"The culmination is when the sun is right above our heads, and this only happens twice a year, in February and September in Bali," said Dwi Hartanto, head of the Bali Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency ( BMKG) for Data and Information Division on Thursday, February 25.

He said the culmination causes the sun ray will fall exactly vertical to the objects on the ground. The shadow of the upright object disappears because it overlaps with the object itself.

The zero shadow day will be observed in several regencies in Denpasar, Gianyar, Tabanan, Klungkung, and Bangli on February 26. Other regencies in Karangasem, Jembrana, and Singaraja will observe the phenomenon on February 27.

Dwi went on to say that people should not be worried because the temperature would not increase due to the rainy season.

"For the current condition, the temperature should not be affected because of the wet season. However, it could be hotter in September, but it would not be extreme," Dwi said.
