Erick maintained that the re-evaluation of the deal with the Bombardier CRJ 1000 aircraft is part of his efforts to make Garuda into a more transparent, accountable, and professionally run company.

The Anti-Corruption Court or Tipikor sentenced former Garuda Indonesia President-Director Emirsyah Satar to eight years in jail and a Rp. 1 billion [$71,589] fine in May 2020 for accepting $3.5 million in various denominations to procure aircraft as well as their engines.

The aircraft included the Airbus A330-300/200 and Bombardier CRJ100 for Garuda Indonesia, Airbus A320 for Garuda’s low-cost subsidiary Citilink. The court also found him guilty of money laundering.
