While Iwan confirmed that the vaccines were distributed, he did not say when they will be applied. “The vaccines’ use are still pending the Emergency Use Authorization from the Food and Drug Agency’s [BPOM].”
However, West Java and West Sulawesi have yet to receive the vaccines. Bio Farma has yet to disclose the reasons for the omission.
Sinovac also sent a second batch of 1.8 million doses of its Covid-19 vaccine to Indonesia on December 31, 2020.
Indonesia also inked deals with AstraZeneca, Novavax and other pharmaceutical companies in its goal to obtain 371 million Covid-19 vaccines through 2022.
The government aims to provide free vaccinations to 181 million Indonesians to achieve herd immunity against the coronavirus.
