JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has announced that the country’s annual inflation rate was recorded at 1.68 percent in 2020.
The figure is lower than the inflation rate in 2019, which was recorded at 2.72 percent.
“The inflation rate in 2020 is the lowest annual inflation rate since 2014,” said Setianto, the agency’s deputy of Distribution and Services Statistics, during a virtual press conference on Monday, January 4.
He said that the largest share of the inflation came from food, beverages, and tobacco at 0.19 percent, with the inflation rate from this sector at 3.63 percent. This is followed by the personal care and other services group at 0.35 percent, with an inflation rate at 5.8 percent.
The share of the food and beverage, restaurant provider group stood at 0.2 percent with an inflation rate at 2.26 percent.
Meanwhile, the share of deflation came from transportation at minus 0.11 percent, with a deflation rate at minus 0.85 percent, followed by the information, communication, and financial services group with a share of minus 0.02 percent and deflation rate at minus 0.35 percent.
