Indonesia and ASEAN Agree to Establish a Regional Travel Bubble

“I welcome the issuance of the ASEAN Declaration on an ASEAN Travel Corridor Arrangement Framework,” Jokowi said during the virtual event on November 12.

The Indonesian President urged the ASEAN Coordinating Council and ASEAN Sectoral Bodies to work quickly and efficiently in realizing the regional travel bubble.

Some of the ways to do so are through the establishment of temporary fast lanes as well as departure and arrival health protocols. Jokowi also suggested utilizing integrated digital platforms and determining the port of entry while applying strict health protocols.

“I hope the ASEAN Travel Corridor Arrangement can begin in the first quarter of next year.”

Jokowi believes that the regional travel bubble will boost public optimism given that economic activities can swiftly rebound by adhering to stringent health protocols.

“Our people cannot wait any longer. They want to see our region revive.”
