KOMPAS.com – Bali will uphold entry restrictions for international tourists despite word that the Indonesian island may lift a ban on international flights on December 1, 2020.

Taufan Yudhistira, Stakeholder Relation Manager for PT Angkasa Pura I, said that international flights at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport are allowed, however, there are entry restrictions for certain travelers based on Indonesia’s Ministry of Law and Human Rights Law Number 26 Year 2020.

The law covers Indonesia’s visa and entry to the country during the new normal, which stipulates that international travelers are temporarily prohibited from entering Indonesia.

Taufan said that there are ongoing discussions about plans to reopen international flights for foreign travelers.

Comments from Bali’s Provincial Government

According to Tribun Bali, Dewa Made Indra, Regional Secretary at the Bali Provincial Government, confirmed that talks of allowing international flights for foreigners are merely a study thus entry restrictions for foreign travelers will remain.

“The ones conducting the study will provide us with a report. They will report to the Governor of Bali and to Indonesia’s central government. The study is among mid-level regional officials and low-level staff members.”

Dewa explained that while foreigners are temporarily not permitted to enter Bali, the provincial government is developing a thorough plan in preparation for when entry restrictions for international tourists are lifted.

The Bali Provincial Government wants to ensure that no new Covid-19 infections will spread in Indonesia’s Island of Gods once foreigners are given entry.

“All of this is a study. The comprehensive results of the study will be handed to the governor at the regional level and the Indonesian President at the central level. Once that is done then government officials will meet to make their decision.”
