Indonesian Citizens Possess 118th Strongest Passport in the World

KOMPAS.com – The Indonesian passport is the 118th strongest in the world in 2020, according to Passport Index.

Passport Index is one of the indexes which measure the number of visa-free travel in the world via their annual Global Passport Power Rank list.

There are 199 countries registered under Passport Index comprising of UN Member-States and six territories such as Taiwan, Macau, Hong Kong, Kosovo, Palestine, the Vatican.

Indonesia received a Mobility Score (MS) of 61 points; MS measures the strength of a passport based on the number of visa-free, visa-on-arrival, Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), and electronic visa options.

Where the Indonesian passport stands today

Although Passport Index ranks the Indonesian passport as the 118th strongest in the world, its MS places it at the 49th position alongside Zambia, Malawi, Azerbaijan, Micronesia, and Suriname.

Indonesian citizens have visa-free access to 23 countries and visa-on-arrival option in 36 countries in the world.

The Indonesian passport’s 2020 ranking slipped from 114th in 2019 when its MS was also higher at 85 points.

Last year, Indonesian citizens had visa-free access to 39 countries and visa-on-arrival options in 46 countries.

Belarus, Palestine, Serbia, Uzbekistan, and Morocco are among the countries allowing Indonesians to enter without a visa.

The Maldives, Nepal, Mauritania, and Bolivia are nations that offer visa-on-arrival to Indonesian citizens.

Indonesian Passport’s Strength in Early 2020

In April 2020, Henley Passport Index ranked the Indonesian passport in 73rd position out of 109 countries in which Indonesian citizens are granted visa-free and visa-on-arrival access in 71 countries.
