DEPOK, KOMPAS.com – A 53-year-old Covid-19 patient committed suicide by jumping from a window on the 13th floor of the University of Indonesia (UI) Hospital in Depok on the outskirts of Jakarta on Thursday, September 3.
Depok Police’s crime investigation unit head Police Commissioner Wadi Sabani said the incident occurred at 10:50am local time, shortly before the patient was scheduled for a blood test.
“About 10am, a witness [nurse] planned to take the patient's blood [for laboratory tests], but before the procedure could be done the witness received a call and left the patient's room,” Wadi said in a written statement on Thursday afternoon.

While on the phone, the nurse heard the sound of glass breaking in the victim's room.
“Then the witness looked inside and found the window glass shattered,” said Wadi.
“After that, the witness tried to look out [for the patient] from a different corner, and the witness found the patient’s body was lying on a portion of the roof area on the sixth floor of the UI Hospital,” he added.
Another nurse on duty on the fifth floor corroborated the information. The nurse heard the sound of an object hitting something with a thud from the room on the fifth floor.
“Then the witness went up to the sixth floor and found the patient’s body lying on the sixth floor,” said Wadi.
