“They were thrown overboard. Three people were found safe at 8am on Sunday, while the search for the other three [who have gone missing] was ongoing,” he said.
“They got split up. Those who survived did not know the condition of their colleagues,” he added.
He explained that the incident was discovered when Police Chief Brigadier (Bripka) Made Bilantara of the directorate of water police corps checked the position of the patrol team on Sunday at around 6:35am local time.

Made contacted the patrol team leader Police Chief Brigadier (Bripka) Ujang, who is also one of the survivors. Ujang said the boat sank and he shared the location via Whatsapp chat.
The police team was deployed to rescue the three survivors, while the three other policemen have gone missing.
“The three rescued policemen were in good condition, while we were still searching for the other three,” he said, adding that the chief police and directorate of water police corps were still in discussion whether more personnel would be added to the existing search team.
