KOMPAS.com – Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy shared its Covid-19 mitigation strategy to members of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) on June 30.
The tourism ministry spoke on behalf of the Indonesian government and shared how the country has been dealing with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the tourism and creative economy sectors.
Director of Agency Relations at Indonesia’s Tourism Ministry Candra Negara said that the ministry’s actions are based on three key instructions set by President Jokowi.

Given that numerous tourism sector workers have been directly affected by the coronavirus pandemic, the government has worked on providing training to improve their competency.
“We have also partnered with hotel and transportation businesses to provide housing facilities for medical workers placed in a Covid-19 government referral hospital,” said Candra.
Indonesia’s tourism ministry has also prepared a guidebook for stakeholders of the tourism and creative economy sectors. The guidebook seeks to further detail what is required in regards to the country’s Covid-19 health protocols as set by the Ministry of Health.

Candra said that the guidebook covers regulations for hotels, restaurants, tourist destinations, and homestays.
During the UNWTO meeting, there were discussions on how the Asia Pacific and South Asia regions can mitigate the coronavirus pandemic.
“The UNWTO mentioned rebuilding consumer confidence through a strategy focused on innovation, investments, and digital transformation,” said Candra on July 1.
