Asna and his neighbors urged the BKSDA rangers not to release the leopard in their locale.
The IUCN has listed the Javan leopard on its Red List as a Critically Endangered species since 2008.
Their population is estimated to be about 250 individuals in the wild with a shrinking habitat of 2.200 to 3.300 square meters.
They have been found in national parks throughout Java such as Gunung Halimun National Park, Ujung Kulon National Park and Bromo Tengger National Park.
