JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Indonesia’s state oil and gas company PT Pertamina is ready to eliminate the production of fuel types that are not environmentally friendly, its President Director Nicke Widyawati said June 15.
Nicke said the initiative will maximize the production of environmentally friendly energy in supporting the government plan to reduce carbon emissions in line with Minister of Environment and Forestry Decree No. 20/2017 on Research Octane Number Restrictions.
“There are regulations under the Ministry of Environment and Forestry that require certain octane rating of gasoline and level of emissions to reduce air pollution,” said Nicke during a virtual discussion.

She went on to say that PT Pertamina is ready to produce more environmentally friendly fuels. “We all experienced during PSBB [large scale social restrictions] that the sky is blue and air quality is better,” she said.
The government imposed large scale social restrictions in March after the first two cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Indonesia, leading to restrictions on people’s movement and public gatherings.
She added that PT Pertamina promotes the use of environmentally friendly fuels as this can pave the way for a better distribution process. “We hope that the initiative will reduce the distribution cost and affordable fuel price.”
PT Pertamina produced 420,400 barrels of crude oil per day and 2,887.9 million cubic feet of gas per day (mmscfd) in the first quarter of 2020, slightly below this year’s target production of about 430,000 bpd of crude and 2,857 mmscfd of gas as announced last year.
