The new MoU signified both nations’ commitment to collaborate and enhance the friendship as previously the two also signed a tourism agreement in 1999.

“This also reiterates the commitment to accelerate the recovery of the tourism industry for the welfare of the people and to achieve the national economic recovery,” said Sandiaga.
The MoU signing was in conjunction with the 25th Meeting of ASEAN Tourism Ministers in Cambodia that will hand over the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) to Indonesia as the host next year.

Under the theme “Empower Talents, Embrace Technology, Recover Tourism”, Indonesia will host the ATF from January 2022 to January 2023.

Currently, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is preparing its recovery plan for the tourism sector, including ensuring the safety and confidence of the visitors to come to Indonesia.

“Therefore, with its participation in the 2022 ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF), Indonesia is confident that it can maintain its position as top of mind for buyers as a world-class tourist destination,” said Sandiaga.
