KOMPAS.com – At least 72 doctors have died from Covid-19 in Indonesia, Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) spokesperson Halik Malik said.
“Based on information received by IDI, at least 72 doctors are reported to have died from Covid-19 or while being a patient under surveillance [Covid-19 PDP],” Halik told Kompas.com
In the past week alone, four doctors have died from Covid-19 infection, he said. They are IDI members from Denpasar in Bali Province, Blitar in East Java Province, Langkat, and Medan in North Sumatra Province.

Halik said they are between the ages of 28 and 34 years. “Generally they have comorbidities, but there are also some without comorbidities at all,” said Halik.
Still uncontrolled
With the increasing number of cases and casualties, IDI warned that the threat of the coronavirus remains high. The pandemic is not yet under control.
“The government should continue to focus on the public health recovery agenda through policies and strategies that have been proven to control the spread of coronavirus among the community. Testing, tracing, isolation, and recovery efforts in each region should be optimized,” said Halik.
With the high mortality rate of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia, he added, it shows that there is still much that needs to be addressed in the health system and pandemic response.
He called on the people at the village level to work together to break the chain of the Covid-19 transmission.
Prevention efforts should be done in all communities to prevent new groups, including people in health facilities from getting infected.
