Jokowi to Inaugurate New Youth and Sports Minister, Counter-terrorism Agency Head Next Week

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said on Friday, March 31 that he will inaugurate the replacement for Youth and Sports Minister Zainudin Amali next week.

“Next week,” said Jokowi, referring to the inauguration but not elaborating.

Besides, Jokowi is also expected to install the new head of the National Counter-terrorism Agency (BNPT). The current BNPT head, Boy Rafli Amar, will be retiring soon.

“There is already a candidate for the new BNPT head. This will be announced next week,” Jokowi said during a visit to a special economic zone (KEK) in Lido, Bogor, West Java.

Previously, Zainudin Amali submitted his resignation letter as the Youth and Sports Minister on March 9. He handed the letter directly to State Secretary Pratikno, after being elected as deputy chief of the Soccer Association of Indonesia (PSSI).

Following his resignation, Jokowi appointed Muhadjir Effendy as acting Youth and Sports Minister. Muhadjir also serves as Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture.

Airlangga Hartarto, the Chairman of the Golkar Party, said that his party has submitted a candidate to be selected by Jokowi as the new Youth and Sports Minister.

Meanwhile, the current BNPT head Commissioner General Boy Rafli Amar will retire soon. There is speculation that Commissioner General Rycko Amelza Dahniel will be appointed as the new Head of BNPT to replace Commissioner General Boy Rafli Amar.

This came to the surface following a circulation of telegram letter (ST) No. ST/713/III/KEP./2023 dated March 27, 2023, signed by Deputy Chief of Police Commissioner General Gatot Eddy Pramono on behalf of National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

The telegram letter stated that Commissioner General Rycko is currently being rotated as a high-ranking officer of the Police's Densus 88 Antiterrorism Squad in preparation for an assignment outside the structure.

"Commissioner General Rycko Amelza Dahniel, who is currently the Director of Education and Training at the National Police, is being rotated as a high-ranking officer of Densus 88 Antiterrorism Squad [preparation for assignment outside the structure]," the letter stated.

The National Police called on all parties to wait for an official announcement and inauguration at the Presidential Palace.
