JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo inspected several venues for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in West Manggarai Barat in East Nusa Tenggara on Tuesday, March 14.
According to Jokowi, some of the venues are ready for the ASEAN Summit in May this year. "We want to ensure the preparations for the ASEAN Summit in May. I see that some of the venues are ready," Jokowi said as quoted by the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel on Tuesday.
"It only needs a few finishing touches, but most importantly we also want to promote Labuan Bajo as a super-priority destination," he added.
Jokowi said that the tourism sites in Golo Mori near the ASEAN Summit venue are already good, as well as the ones in the Labuan Bajo area.
"I think when we look around, everything is beautiful and magnificent," said Jokowi.
The former Solo Mayor also confirmed that all ASEAN member countries will attend the upcoming summit. Indonesia's chairmanship of ASEAN officially began in January 2023.
President Jokowi previously said that this year’s ASEAN Chairmanship runs from January 2023 to December.
Indonesia will lead ASEAN countries to contribute and provide positive solutions for the world amid challenging global situations, especially in the economic sector.
"This year, Indonesia chairs the ASEAN amid a very difficult global situation. Economic crises, energy crises, food crises, wars, all are happening," said Jokowi in a statement on Jan. 30.
Nevertheless, the former Jakarta Governor believed that ASEAN remains important and relevant for the people, region, and world.
