One Indonesian Killed, 2 Others Remain Unreachable in Turkey Quake

JAKARTA, – An Indonesian national was killed in Monday’s 7.8-magnitude earthquake in Turkey, the country’s embassy in Ankara confirmed.

Nia Marlinda, who originally comes from Bali province, along with her Turkish husband and their one-year-old child were crushed to death beneath rubble in Kahramanmaras city.

The Indonesian Embassy in Ankara had already contacted the family of the deceased back home. "The remains of these three people will be buried today [Wednesday] in Kahramanmaras," the embassy said in a statement.

To date, the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara has evacuated 123 people from various locations affected by the deadly earthquake.

Of the number of people evacuated, there were two Malaysian citizens and one Myanmar citizen.

The team from the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara arrived at the affected area on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 9:30 pm local time.

"I have called on our citizens to inform their families back home that they are in good hands following the evacuation,” the embassy's official website quoted Lalu.

Meanwhile, the evacuation team from the embassy in Ankara is evacuating 20 Indonesians in Diyarbakir and Malatya. However, two citizens remain unreachable in Diyarbakir.

"We have arrived in Diyarbakir and are still communicating with local authorities and the Indonesian community to identify two of our countrymen who remain unreachable," said the embassy’s head of evacuation team Police Commissioner (Kombes) Budi Wardiman.
