1,300 Camping Tents Provided for Alternative Accommodations during Indonesia’s MotoGP

KOMPAS.com – About 1,300 camping tents have been provided to accommodate fans of the MotoGP motorcycle racing event that will run from March 18-20 on the Indonesian holiday island of Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.

The camping tents are built in campgrounds near to the new Mandalika circuit as an alternative accommodation because thousands of hotel rooms in the area have been fully booked now.

“We can briefly inform that about 6,492 rooms are provided in Lombok and it is expected to reach 100 percent of occupancy, especially in the Mandalika area. However, 1,300 camping tents are still vacant now,” Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry’s deputy for destination and infrastructure development Vinsensius Jemadu told a weekly press briefing on Monday, March 14.

He called on the fans, especially the millennials and group riding to consider the camping tents as their places of stay because the location is close to the Mandalika circuit.

“Don’t worry, around the Mandalika area there are still places of stay provided by Bobobox and Eiger for the fans, including the millennial and group riding,” said Vinsensius.

How much does it cost?

The prices for camping tents are varied from 250,000 to 1,000,000 Indonesian rupiahs ($17-$70).

“I think the prices are affordable,” Vinsensius said.

The ministry has also transported food trucks to the Mandalika area to supply food and beverages as well as promote Indonesian culinary during the MotoGP motorcycle-racing event.
“We are collaborating with Bango [soy sauce producer] to bring about 30 micro, small and medium enterprises from all over Indonesia, mostly from Lombok island,” said the ministry’s deputy for the digital economy and creative products Neil El Himam.
