Tino and Hari could have been exposed when they were given treatment by staffers who did not know they were exposed to Covid-19 because they were asymptomatic.

“We will continue to do contact tracing although no one has shown symptoms of illness. But we do not rule out the possibility of asymptomatic [Covid-19 infection]," said Endah.

Endah confirmed that no other animal has been exposed to Covid-19. “Besides the Sumatran tigers Hari and Tino, other animals in this zoo show no symptoms of Covid.”

Indonesia reported 22,404 new confirmed cases as of August 2, bringing the total number of infections nationwide to 3.4 million since the first two cases were announced in March last year. Meanwhile, 1,568 people have died of the coronavirus, bringing the death toll to nearly 98,000.
