Fire Breaks Out at Pertamina Oil Refinery in Cilacap, Central Java

An oil refinery managed by Indonesian state run energy company Pertamina in Central Java’s Cilacap Regency was on fire on Friday. No injuries were reported in the incident.

“The disaster occurred during heavy rains and lightning at 8.40 pm. So there is a possibility that it was caused by the latter,” said I Nyoman Sidakarya, the head of the Cilacap branch of the National Search and Rescue Agency or Basarnas.

“Fortunately the refinery is distant from residential areas, so it incurred no casualties.”

Nyoman added that the refinery is filled with benzine. The head of the Cilacap Fire Brigade, Supriyadi, reiterated him.

“[The fire brigade] managed to bring the flames under control. Now the refinery is in the process of cooling off,“ he said.

Pertamina has yet to comment on the incident.
