JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Indonesian Air Force and the United States Air Force (USAF) will begin a two-week military drill at the Roesmin Nurjadin Air Base in the Indonesian city of Pekanbaru in Riau province on Monday, June 14.
The 2021 Cope West joint training exercise will involve several F-16 fighter aircraft from both militaries.
"Today, a number of USAF personnel and equipment have arrived at the Roesmin Nurjadin Air Base, while their F-16 aircraft will arrive in the next few days as the joint military exercise is scheduled to start on Monday,” said Head of the Air Force Information Service Marshal Indan Gilang Buldansyah on Tuesday, June 8.

Indan explained that the Cope West joint training exercise is an aerial combat exercise using F-16 fighter aircraft to improve the capabilities and professionalism of the personnel of the two air forces.
In addition, these exercises are designed to advance interoperability and enhance the relations between USAF and the Indonesian Air Force.
"They will share experiences between flight personnel and technicians of the two Air Force's F-16 fighter aircraft," said Indan.
The 2021 Cope West joint training exercise will be held for two weeks.
"This activity continues to comply with the Covid-19 health protocol, including the urge for the USAF personnel to undergo self-isolation before carrying out the exercise," he added.
