Indonesia's UGM Ranked among Top Universities in the World

KOMPAS.com - The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, a ranking system for the world's universities, has recently released its list of the 2021 world's best universities, including in Indonesia.

Yogyakarta-based Gadjah Mada University (UGM) is ranked 810th out of 30,000 universities in the world and has once again been ranked first place among all universities in the country. 

"Hopefully UGM will become a reference university and contribute more to the nation and the world," said UGM's rector Panut Mulyono as quoted by the university's official website on Thursday, January 28.

Compared to last year, UGM has moved up from 1,484th to 810th position in the World Ranking. This achievement was based on three indicators, namely impact or visibility, openness or transparency, and excellence.

Top 3 Best Private Universities

From the results of Webometrics' ranking, there are several interesting names to look at. Three private universities in the top 20 best universities in Indonesia comprise:

1. Bina Nusantara (Binus) University.

2. Telkom University.

3. University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY).

Other best private Indonesian universities included in the Webometrics are Gunadarma University, Yogyakarta Ahmad Dahlan University, Dian Nuswantoro University, and Narotama University.

There are also Satya Wacana Christian University, Islamic University of Indonesia (UII), Mercu Buana University, Atma Yogyakarta University, Parahyangan Catholic University, Petra Christian University, Muhammadiyah Surakarta University, and Muhammadiyah Malang University.

The Widyatama University, Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia, Esa Unggul University, Trisakti University, Sanata Dharma USD Sleman University, Tarumanegara University (Untar), Maranatha Christian University are also among the list.
