The former Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) head was also promoted to a four-star general to replace General Idham Azis, who will retire this month.
Listyo's appointment is stipulated in Presidential Decree No. 5/2021, signed by President Joko Widodo. Reading the decree was Air Vice Marshal M. Tony Harjono, Military Secretary to President.
“This is to appoint Commissioner General Drs Listyo Sigit Prabowo MSi as the Indonesian National Police chief,” said Tony.
The decree also honorably dismissed General Idham Azis as the National Police chief. The President expressed his utmost gratitude to Idham for his service and contribution to the nation and the country during his tenure as the National Police chief.
It was reported that during the previous fit and proper test before the leaders and members of the House of Representatives Commission III overseeing legal affairs, Listyo disclosed the programs he would implement during his first 100 days.
He promised to resolve cases in Indonesia that caught the public attention. “In the next 100 days, we have prepared programs that we can carry out immediately such as resolving cases that caught the public attention,” Listyo said.
Listyo further added that he would change the services provided at the sub-precinct police stations (Polsek). “I am genuinely hopeful that everything could be done on time during the first 100 days, as well as the medium and long-term programs,” said Listyo.
