Jakarta Removed from the 10 World’s Worst Cities for Traffic Jams in 2020

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – For now, this may sound relieving for the people of Jakarta when TomTom Traffic Index has removed the Indonesian capital from the 10 worst cities in the world for traffic jams.

The new traffic index in 2020 reported that among 416 cities from 57 countries, Jakarta’s congestion level stood at 36 percent, as compared to 53 percent in 2019. Jakarta now ranks 31st and no longer ranks 10th among the most traffic jams in the world.

Here below are the 10 worst cities for traffic jams in the world:

1. Moscow, Russia – 54 percent.
2. Mumbai, India – 53 percent.
3. Bogota, Colombia – 53 percent.
4. Manila, the Philippines – 53 percent.
5. Istanbul, Turkey – 51 percent.
6. Bengaluru, India – 51 percent.
7. Kyiv, Ukraine – 47 percent.
8. New Delhi, India – 47 percent.
9. Novosibirsk, Russia – 45 percent.
10.Bangkok, Thailand – 44 percent.

Based on the TomTom Traffic Index, the Jakarta Provincial Administration, through its official Instagram account @disubdkijakarta, has expressed its appreciation to all the people in Jakarta.

“According to the latest TomTom Traffic Index, Jakarta has been removed from the top 10 congested cities in the world. Now, Jakarta ranks 31st out of 416 cities, which means less congested,” wrote the account.

Bridge construction at Jagorawi toll road

Meanwhile, the Jasamarga Metropolitan Toll Road Maintenance (JMTM) along with Jasamarga Metropolitan Toll Road (JMT) is currently repairing the construction of the bridge in the Jagorawi Toll Road.

The construction will take place on both roads going toward Jakarta and Ciawi from January 17-23.

JMT’s marketing and communication department head, Irra Susiyanti, said the construction aims to improve the safety and comfort of all toll users.

“This is part of our commitments and efforts to ensure the safety and comfort of motorists and also to improve the quality of the bridge on the Jagorawi toll road,” said Irra in a statement, on Sunday, January 17.

Irra also said that her office will work closely with the Police to manage the traffic until the work construction is completed.

“We also provide work-safety signs and have traffic control officers around the sites as well as ensure all officers follow the health protocols in their workplaces,” she said.
