JAKARTA, – The Indonesian public is eager to put 2020 behind them and start anew in 2021, as shown in a survey held by Kompas at the end of last year.

“85.5 percent of respondents are confident that Indonesia can bounce back and recover from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021,” said Kompas of the survey, which was held throughout throughout Indonesia.

“78.9 percent of respondents are confident that Indonesia’s social, economic and political conditions will improve next year.”

But they noted that there is still room for improvement, among them a curative approach to overcome the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, which currently stands at 772,103 cases.

“31.2 percent of survey participants believe that the central and local government can improve health services. This includes providing enough beds and wards for [emergency Covid-19 hospitals], as well as extra attention to the welfare of medical workers in 2021.”

The increasing rate of Covid-19 transmission also prompted “41.6 percent of respondents to say that nationwide vaccinations are an urgent matter for the government in 2021.

They added that changes to jumpstart the economy after it ground to a halt because of Covid-19, is a close second to health care.

“29.3 percent of participants believe that the government should encourage investors to invest in their areas to create jobs, while 21.7 percent suggested that the government should provide capital for business,” they noted. “Another 11.1 percent said the government should provide tax rebates.”
