JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo has reprimanded all cabinet ministers and other high-ranking officials for the poor public communication regarding the controversial Jobs Law, Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko said on Wednesday.
“Many people have conveyed their complaints on the Job Creation Law. We all were reprimanded by the president due to our poor public communication,” Moeldoko said at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday, October 21.
The former TNI Commander said that the poor government public relations was the cause of the rejection of the newly passed Jobs Law and the massive protests by the students and workers until now.
Moeldoko said that the ministers are now starting to improve their style of communication in public, especially when disseminating information on the Job Creation Law.
It is hoped that there will be no more misunderstandings between the government and the people, he added.
“We will immediately fix the way we communicate with the people for a better future,” he said.
He said that in the era of the rapid development of information technology the government is sometimes facing difficulty in dealing with hoaxes on social media.
However, he added, it should not be an excuse for not communicating well. “We will always want to improve,” said Moeldoko.
Previously, President Jokowi said that the protests against the Job Creation Law were caused by disinformation and hoaxes on social media.
Media reported that members of the public still cannot access the final version of the Law from the official sites of the government and the House of Representatives.
The Job Creation Law, which was passed on October 5, aims to boost investment in the country and provide more job opportunities.
