JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The National Police Densus 88 counterterrorism squad has arrested L, also identified as Ummu Syifa, 28, wife of the East Indonesia Mujahidin (MIT) terrorist group leader Ali Kalora, in Central Sulawesi.

“The person is the wife of Indonesia’s most wanted man Ali Kalora, the MIT leader,” said National Police spokesman Brigadier General Awi Setiyono at the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) building in South Jakarta on August 18.

Awi said L was arrested for allegedly joining the terrorist group for 23 days and keeping the information about their whereabouts.

She was arrested at Puna Bridge in South Poso Pesisir in Central Sulawesi on July 29, 2020.

Still on the same day, Densus 88 also arrested another member of the MIT terrorist group identified as YS Kalora. The 21-year-old man was arrested in Tangkura Village in Poso, Central Sulawesi.

Police said YS was arrested for his role in allegedly bringing prospective members and delivering the logistics to the terrorist group.

“He brought people to Tangkura Village for joining the MIT terrorist group. Secondly, he planned to deliver 1,590,000 rupiahs ($107) in cash and food or snacks to the MIT group,” said Awi.

The two suspects could face a life sentence if found guilty.
