SINGAPORE, KOMPAS.com – Incoming travelers to Singapore will be required to wear an electronic monitoring device as they self-isolate for two weeks.
Singapore authorities is taking this step in a bid to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the city-state.
The move aims to ensure that incoming travelers will strictly self-isolate at their places rather than at the government isolation facility after arriving the city-state, BNN Bloomberg quoted a press release issued by the Singapore’s government on August 3.
“The regulation will take effect on August 10 and will be applied to Singapore citizens, permanent residents, long-term visit pass holders, and employment pass holders,” the Singapore government said.

Upon arrival, all incoming travelers will be installed with the electronic devices after obtaining an entry permit from the immigration authorities. Children aged 12 and under will not be required to wear the devices.
The authorities will follow up on the incoming travelers if the devices are not activated after arriving at their residence. The electronic devices are equipped with GPS and 4G signals to monitor whether they are carrying out self-isolation.
Previously, ministries and institutions in Singapore monitored the Singaporeans and visitors who conducted coronavirus quarantines in various ways. This included monitoring via text messages, telephone calls, or video calls. The steps were also intended to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
