JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Younger employees at Indonesia’s state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina are urged to go beyond business as usual as they now get equal opportunity to fill executive positions.
“I need 3,000 agents of change and I hope the young workers under 40 years old who have been working for over 10 years in PT Pertamina could serve in the board of directors,” said Ahok during his speech broadcast via the company’s official video channel on Sunday, July 26.
Jakarta’s former governor added the company requires a high level of empathy from a candidate to serve as director. Thus, he said, candidates can prioritize common interests, rather than personal.
“What do we need? Integrity, empathy, and bravery for the benefit of Pertamina,” he said, adding that such traits are needed to boost the company’s revenue which will be beneficial for the Indonesian people.
“We are gathered here with one goal — to build Pertamina, to make Pertamina wealthy. If Pertamina is wealthy, all stakeholders are wealthy, we are wealthy, the government is wealthy, the people of Indonesia are wealthy,” he said.
Previously, Ahok had said that Pertamina was entering a new company culture that aims to provide employees equal opportunities for strategic positions from the senior vice president (SVP) to the board of directors. It is hoped that Pertamina can be led by people from inside the organization, instead of from other state-owned enterprises.
