Defective Fuel Pump Prompts Recall of Over 85,000 Honda Cars in Indonesia

July 16, 2020, 09.39 PM

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Honda announced it will recall over 85,000 cars from the Indonesian market after it detected a faulty fuel pump in a number of models. The move is effective throughout Indonesia from Wednesday, July 15.

Honda’s Indonesian subsidiary PT Honda Prospect Motor (HPM) said the recall will involve cars manufactured between 2017 and 2019.

“The recall will involve models such as the Brio, Mobilio, Jazz, BR-V, HR-V, CR-V, City, Civic and Accord,” PT HPM Service and Parts General Manager Denny MT said in a press statement.

“The move is designed to prevent instances where the engines die abruptly or fail to start at all because of defective fuel pumps. The service to replace the [fuel pump] will also be done free of charge at Honda's official workshops.”

Denny added that customer participation in the product recall is vital, as it is for their safety.

"We have notified the owners of the vehicles with the defective fuel pump,” he said. “We urge them to bring their car to an official Honda garage for a check and get the part replaced.”

Denny added that Honda also provides free pickup service for the car to the nearest official dealer. Customers can contact the nearest official Honda garage or book an appointment through the Honda e-Care application on Apple App Store or Google Play Store, he said.

Car owners who comply between July and September 2020 will get free engine oil or a bottle of engine cleaner.

He called on car owners whose vehicles changed hands to notify Honda Customer Care. He added that they can get further information about the recall or if their vehicles are among those recalled on Honda Indonesia’s website.

According to the Antara state news agency, Honda’s decision to recall the vehicles occurred months after it and another automotive giant Toyota recalled over six million of their vehicles worldwide because of defective air bags in January 2020.
