JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Muhadjir Effendy shared a motivational tip to dream big if one seeks to be successful.

The Minister offered his advice to members of the Indonesia Islamic Students group during an event on studying overseas.

Speaking via teleconference on June 27, Muhadjir Effendy encouraged the students to not fear to dream big. As such, he also pushed the students to chase after their aspirations.

“Only people with big dreams go on to become successful people. There are no successful people with small dreams,” said Muhadjir.

The Human Development Minister believes that everyone has equal opportunities.

“If we have big aspirations then don’t give up. Chase after it until it’s realized, and there are no differences in intelligence or chances. Everyone has the same chance if they create an opportunity,” said the Minister.

The event was also the opportunity for Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs to share insights on information gathering about studying overseas.

He suggested that students decide who will fund their tuition be it a sponsor or scholarship. Aside from university scholarships, there are other institutions that offer scholarships.

Among them is the central government’s Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education or commonly known as Beasiswa LPDP.

“If you want to study overseas, you have to prepare your academic and language skills. When it comes to language, it all depends on the designated country. If you’re aiming for the Middle East region, then improve your Arab skills," said Muhadjir

"If it’s outside of the Middle East region, then enhance your English skills or other requirements which need to be met.”

He added: “If you are serious about overseas study then start gathering information about the university you’re aiming for. Find information on requirements, the language of the study, finding sponsors, and scholarship sources. All of that can be found on the internet."

"It's important to have the enthusiasm and to never give up if you have big dreams,” said the Minister.

Minister Muhadjir Effendy had previously underlined the need to pay special focus on religious education and Islamic boarding schools during the new normal transition in early June.

The extra attention should be on the learning aspect, but also on access to social assistance programs.
