“The traffic gridlock last weekend has been caused by visitors, particularly motorists, taking shortcuts previously known to locals. There are too many vehicles for us to control effectively.”
“Many motorcyclists use those routes to evade personnel from the Covid-19 task force. We are also experiencing a shortage of personnel to man checkpoints or posts,” said Ade.
“As a result, we cannot control the numbers of vehicles and people [going to and from Puncak]. The only action we can take is advise the public and little else."
West Java has managed to reduce the rate of Covid-19 infections. The province has the fourth-highest number of cases in Indonesia behind East Java, DKI Jakarta, and South Sulawesi with 2662 cases, 162 of whom died from the disease.
