The daily infection rate on Tuesday is the highest ever recorded since the capital city announced its first Covid-19 cases on 3 March.
Based on public data from the Jakarta Provincial Government, 3,369 individuals have recovered from the highly contagious virus while 547 patients have died.
Tuesday’s figures also bypass the previous peak of infection rate that took place on 16 April which stood at 223 cases.
The record-breaking number comes following Jakarta’s transition to the ‘new normal’. The transition period falls under Phase 1 of easing lockdown which began on Friday, 5 June.
Phase 1 enabled businesses across 11 sectors to receive the green light in gradually reopening operations.
The sectors are Healthcare, Energy, ICT, Finance and Banking, Logistics, Hospitality, Construction, Food & Beverages, and companies operating in the strategic industry as well as essential businesses.
An evaluation of Phase 1 is expected to be carried out at the end of June 2020.
Offices and the business community have been asked to abide by public health protocols and guidelines as part of the reopening.
