KOMPAS.com - The Indonesian government continues to receive international assistance in the form of medical equipment, following a severe second wave of Covid-19 that claimed over 67,000 lives in the country.
After a week of record-breaking new daily cases, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that other countries had offered aid in the form of vaccines, medicines, and other medical supplies. Among them are the US, the Netherlands, Australia, Japan, the UK, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, India, China and other international organizations.
Medical assistance from Singapore in the form of oxygen cylinders, oxygen concentrators, and ventilators arrived on Friday, July 9. Singapore also rolled out personal protective equipment, including surgical and N95 masks, gloves, and gowns. The government will also buy seven units of the oxygen generator and 36,000 tons of oxygen for the next 30 days.
Indonesia will also receive assistance worth $12 million in the form of 1,000 ventilators, 700 oxygen concentrators, more than 170 oxygen cylinders, medical supplies, 40,000 rapid antigen test kits, and AstraZeneca vaccine from Australia.
The number of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia has been increasing sharply. As of Monday, July 12, a total of 40,427 new cases were recorded in only 24 hours, a new high in the daily number of Covid-19 cases and bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 2,567,630 since the first two cases were announced in March last year.
