KOMPAS.com – A road cyclist has died when passing the elevated non-toll road connecting Kampung Melayu and Tanah Abang in Jakarta on Sunday, May 23. The 2.3-kilometer elevated road with a height of 18 meters was opened only for cyclists during a trial run of bike lane for three hours from 5-8 am.

In other news, Indonesia and Russia are expected to sign a pact on agriculture cooperation in a bid to increase the bilateral economic relations of both countries.

In June, the government will launch incentive assistance worth 60 billion rupiahs ($4 million) to revive the tourism sector in the country. The assistance will be distributed to five creative economy sub-sectors and tourism village entrepreneurs.

Road Cyclist Dies during Trial Run of Jakarta’s Bike Lane

A road cyclist identified as John has died when passing the elevated non-toll road connecting Kampung Melayu and Tanah Abang in Jakarta on Sunday, May 23.

The 2.3-kilometer elevated road with a height of 18 meters was opened only for cyclists during a trial run of the bike lane from 5-8 am.

The 62-year-old cyclist sat down leaning against the concrete wall at one of the sections of the road when another cyclist found him.

Head of Traffic Department at the Jakarta Transportation Agency, Rudy Saptari, said that John was found alone at the side of the road.

“He was found alone by another cyclist who happened to be his relative,” said Rudy, adding that the relative then reported it to the Jakarta Transportation Agency.

John was brought to the Tarakan Hospital in Central Jakarta by an ambulance. He died of a heart attack as the family said he had a history of cardiovascular disease.
